New year, new habits
The new year brings new opportunities to start new habits to make our lives easier and achieve those goals we've set for ourselves. We know the habits we want to start are good for us, but making them happen can be the tricky part, so this week I'm sharing my top 3 habit hacks to help you feel focused and empowered to kick your goals in 2023.
Let's begin the week (and the year!) by investing in the power of small and consistent habits to reach our goals and realise our potential.
Pick a habit that you would like to bring to life. Write it down.

|
|
Consider: whether your desired new habit is something you can do frequently and consistently.
Practice: focusing on one habit at a time and if it feels too big, deconstruct it further.
Decide to: commit to a minimum of 30 days to decide if the new habit is for you and to make the habit 'automatic'. |

My top three habit hacks
The notion that 'we are what we repeatedly do' is a tangible and pragramatic way to master our goals, without expending significant money, time or even willpower in the process. As James Clear explains in his book 'Atomic Habits', it's the tiny things we do each day, that when enacted frequently and with consistency, define not only our behaviour, but our identity. Add to that accountability and owning your start and end of day routines and you have my top three habit hacks:
#1 MVH - Minimum Viable Habits Minimum Viable Habits or MVH refers to the idea that successful behavioural change can be achieved by breaking down new habits into the smallest possible components. This year I want to read a book week so my daily MVH will be to read a minimum of 25 pages a day.
#2 Identity Habits - Say it out loud When we say our newly committed habit out loud to people we care about, our chances of success increase by 70%.
I'm keeping myself accountable by telling all of you about my goal to read a book a week! And every Sunday I'll be providing a summary of the book I read on my Instagram stories, talking about some of the key things that I find interesting, lessons learned, and a review. I'd love for you to tune in.
#3 Habits as Rituals - Own your start and end of day When it comes to beginning and ending your days, simple rituals that embed intentionality can be extremely useful and are powerful triggers in our daily cycle.
This year I have begun starting my days with something uncomfortable - cold showers. I want to see if it might help make it easier to do uncomfortable things during the day and I am pleasantly surprised by the early results.
