I can’t help but notice there’s a certain sense of bleh creeping into the lives of those I love. A few days ago my partner and I caught ourselves napping on the couch. In the middle of the afternoon. In the middle of the week! I can’t remember the last time I did that without jetlag. (I’ll admit it felt good.)
But this is a different type of lag. It’s circling somewhere in the zeitgeist between America’s Great Resignation, Adam Grant’s Languishing, and the stalling bar charts of epidemiologists’ vaccination rates.
How do we relight the match of what fires us up?
Refueling our purpose? Dancing in the kitchen? Reading poetry?

Their work was based on twenty-five years of helping the world’s best athletes perform more effectively under pressure. In studying athletes, they determined that managing energy was the currency of high performance. Balancing energy expenditure relies on intermittent energy renewal, and our ability to create highly specific, positive energy management rituals to make lasting changes to our energy rhythms. Otherwise, Loehr and Schwartz say, ‘We race through our lives without pausing to consider who we really want to be or where we really want to go. We’re wired up, but we’re melting down.’
