Play: It’s Serious Business

Play: It's Serious Business

Monday Musing: What if we infused play into our daily routines and allowed it to fuel our creativity and productivity?

“We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.”

- George Bernard Shaw

As leaders, we often get caught up in the seriousness of our roles, following routines and sticking to the tried-and-true. But in a world that thrives on innovation and fresh ideas, it's time to break free from the shackles of routine thinking and embrace the joy and benefits of play. Research shows that a playful work environment boosts innovation by 15% and increases productivity by 20%.

Dr. Stuart Brown, author, and founder of The National Institute of Play, says that understanding our 'play personality' is key to harnessing the power of play. By identifying our play preferences - Director, Artist/Creator, Kinesthete, Joker, Competitor, Collector, Storyteller, or Explorer - we can tailor our play experiences to align with what brings us the most joy and fulfillment. Further, by recognising and appreciating the different play styles of individuals within our team, we can foster stronger relationships, improve communication, and enhance collaboration.

Take charge of your Monday.
